Westerbouwing

Westerbouwing is a strategic hill near Oosterbeek, which was just a small part of the plan of General Urquhart to construct a perimeter. A few British troops occupied this hill. The Germans conquerred this hill soon and had now control over the Rhine and a part of Oosterbeek
The Dorset Regiment tried to liberate the Airborne troops at Oosterbeek, but they had to retreat, because the Germans occupied the Westerbouwing. Nowadays there is a restaurant on this hill. You have an excellent view of the surroundings and sometimes you can even see Nijmegen, which is 20 km away. In Nijmegen British Artillery helped the Airborne troops at Arnhem, by aiming at targets in Oosterbeek. They made a plaque on the restaurant, dedicated to the Dorsets.
